You’ve likely heard about all the Colorado connections the San Francisco 49ers have as they head into the Super Bowl on Feb. 11, but the Kansas City Chiefs also have one…
Chiefs defensive Tackle Mike Pennel went to Grandview High School in Aurora and played for Colorado State University Pueblo. Pennel has been in the NFL since 2014 and has played for five different teams. This is his second stint with the Chiefs, as he was a member of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl winning squad in Super Bowl LIV in 2020 that defeated the San Francisco 49ers.
On the other side, the 49ers have John Lynch as their General Manager. He played for the Broncos from 2004 to 2007. 49ers head coach, Kyle Shanahan is the son of former Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan, who led the team to two consecutive Super Bowl wins in 1998 and 1999. At the same time, Kyle played football for Cherry Creek High School. Running Back Christian McCaffrey is the son of former Broncos Wide Receiver Ed McCaffrey, and played at Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch. Cornerback Isaiah Oliver played for the University of Colorado Boulder from 2015 until being drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2018 NFL Draft also.
