One-in-10 people in Colorado have unclaimed money – Here’s how to check if you’re one

Sure, there’s a national day for everything, but although obscure, today’s could be lucrative for you. Today (Feb. 1) is National Unclaimed Property Day, and one-in-10 people in Colorado have money waiting for them that just needs to be claimed.
The money is for things like unpaid wages and uncashed checks, and the average claim in 2023 was $733.78.
It’s pretty easy to find out if you have money waiting. You just go to Colorado’s Unclaimed Property Website and search for your name. If you show up, the process of claiming that property is different for each situation, but may involve sending in proof of identity in addition to the providing a social security number.
