MUSIC CITY MINUTE – FEBRUARY 8 – SUPER BOWL AND MORGAN WALLEN
By Brian Michel on February 8, 2021
Super Bowl Sunday kicked off with a beautiful collaboration! ‘America the Beautiful’ was just that performed by H.E.R. She rocked it! And Eric Church! We were “iffy” about his rendition of our nation’s National Anthem and then re-watched it and WOW… Genre crossing greatness with R&B singer Jaime Sullivan. Church, strumming his guitar, donned in a purple jacket started singing our country’s song, calm and straight forward and then Sullivan’s powerful vocals came in and this collab was nothing but genius. The climax was all sorts of glorious with red rockets, I mean fireworks and planes in the background.
One of the best things to come out any Super Bowl are the commercials! In the new Team Mobile Super Bowl spot Maroon 5’s Adam Levine sets up Gwen Stefani on a blind date with Blake Shelton. Love Blake! Dressed in his usual Blake attire with his cowboy boots and spurs. Gwen even asked, “did you ride a horse here?” Yes, when we first heard rumors that the unlikely couple were dating, we all were like… seriously?
Morgan Wallen may have been silenced on every platform known to man amid being videoed last week using a racial slur. But not so much when it comes to album sales. Dangerous is number one on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart for a fourth straight week. The last country album to spend its first four weeks at No. 1 on this chart was Shania Twain‘s “Up” back in 2003. Per Billboard, Garth Brooks‘ Double Live album is the most recent from a male artist to top the Billboard 200 for four straight weeks, doing so in 1998.
