Music City Minute | February 26, 2024 – Tom Petty tribute album, Oliver Anthony surprised by Randy Travis
By Sheena on February 26, 2024
Hold on to your butts, because country and classic rock meet in the middle for a brand-new Tom Petty tribute album. Many of country music’s biggest stars put a southern spin on Petty’s most iconic songs. Luke Combs performs “Runnin’ Down a Dream,” Wynonna Judd and Lainey Wilson sing “Refugee,” there’s a live cut of George Strait performing “You Wreck Me,” and the leading single from the album is Dierks Bentley on “American Girl.” Petty Country, A Country Music Celebration of Tom Petty, is due out on May 31st.
Oliver Anthony had a couple of pinch me moments last week. It started with back-to-back sold-out shows at the Ryman Auditorium. Before hitting the stage for his first performance, the Virginia native was surprised by a country music legend – Randy Travis. During their backstage meet-up, Anthony found out Travis is a huge fan of his music. Later in the evening, after a performance of “Rich Men North of Richmond,” Travis surprised everyone by appearing briefly on stage with Anthony and the crowd went wild! Later, Anthony admitted, “I can’t believe this is real-life.”
