King Soopers Out, Piggly Wiggly In – It Could Happen in Colorado
By Shawn Patrick on December 27, 2023
People who don’t live in Colorado always wonder what the heck a King Soopers is, and conversely a lot of people from Colorado wonder what a Piggly Wiggly is… There he same thing, grocery stores, and soon we may have the latter in Colorado.
King Soopers’ parent company Kroger announced plans to merge with Albertsons earlier this year. When/if it happens, 52 Colorado King Soopers stores will be sold. The buyer is C&S Wholesale Grocers, the parent company of Piggly Wiggly.
Denver7 spoke with a C&S Wholesale Grocers representative regarding potential re-branding across Colorado, who said, “the agreement is set to close in early 2024, subject to regulatory clearance and customary closing conditions. At this time, no more information will be available.”
It may seem unlikely, but C&S Wholesale Grocers currently only owns stores called Piggly Wiggly, Nell’s, and Southern Family Markets.
