Colorado sports fans will always remember Ed McCaffery as one of John Elway’s favorite receivers, but his latest Colorado football venture was far less successful.

As the head football coach of the University of Northern Colorado, McCaffrey posted a 6-16 record in two seasons, including a 4-12 record in the Big Sky Conference, and that wasn’t good enough for the folks in Greeley as it was announced he will no longer coach the team.

The school announced they will conduct a national search for their next coach, but the job will likely not be at the top of most prospects wish lists as the the Bears went 2-10 in 2019, the season before McCaffery arrived, before firing head coach Earnest Collins Jr. Collins Jr. went 28-72 in his career at UNC. In other words this is not the same UNC program that was winning Division Two National Championships in the 90’s.

No word on what’s next for McCaffery.
