Dale Earnhardt Jr. will take his final laps this year. The 42-year-old announced his retirement today (Tuesday), effective at the end of the 2017 racing season.
Dale Jr. has had a history of concussions and was forced to miss the last 18 races of 2016 because of a concussion. He returned this year and is currently ranked 24th in the NASCAR Cup Series standings. The son of NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Sr. began racing at age 24 and has gone on to win 26 races including the Daytona 500 twice.
