Elitch Gardens Could Likely Move Near Denver International Airport Eventually
By Shawn Patrick on August 15, 2023
As a Colorado native it’s nearly impossible to imagine Elitch Gardens being anywhere but Downtown Denver, but like it or not, a move is probably coming…
The theme park has already announced plans to demolish its current site Downtown at 2000 Elitch Circle, between Interstate 25 and Speer Boulevard. It’s a prime piece of real estate, and will eventually be a residential neighborhood with commercial and retail space mixed in.
So where will they rebuild? Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman has confirmed his city has been in discussions with Elitch Gardens reps about being their future host. “They’re going to be pretty much a little southeast of the Gaylord,” the mayor said, referring to the Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center. “I’ve been in conversation with both sides to make sure there’s compatibility.
“The current Elitch’s is about half the size of what we would be looking for in a new site, and so we just need more space to provide a new and improved experience,” says Rhys Duggan, CEO and president of Revesco Properties, which manages Elitch Gardens with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment.
Although nothing is confirmed, and it will still be years before the current Elitch’s goes away, it seems like a Aurora, near DIA, could be the perfect new home!
