Denver, CO – After what was the warmest New Year’s Day in almost 20 years when we reached 55 degrees, Denver’s first snow of 2024 is coming this and possibly next week.

Current models shared by 9News Chris Bianchi show that late Thursday into Friday we could receive a few inches of snow which could lead to a slippery Friday morning drive to work.

A milder than usual December has lead to Colorado’s snowpack numbers being significantly below average, so new snow would definitely be welcome to our ski resorts hoping to kick off the Winter ski season strong.

The dry start to our Winter season follows 2023, which was a year where our statewide snowpack was the 2nd highest in 25 years in March

One factor which may bring more snow in our future is the weather phenomenon called El Nino which historically brings higher-than-average snowfall to the state in March and April
