Decker Fire: Mandatory Evacuations

By Sheena on October 2, 2019

The Decker Fire burning near Salida in Chaffee County has grown to nearly 3,800 acres. The Chaffee County Sheriff has issued mandatory evacuations for:

*Methodist Mountain Estates

*Boot Hill

*Pinon Ridge Estate

*Fawn Ridge Estates

*Mountain Vista Village

These areas are south of County Road 111 between County Road 104 and the west edge of Fawn Ridge Estates.

The Chaffee County Sheriff said evacuees need to report to the Chaffee County Fairgrounds. Evacuees are not required to stay, but do need to check in for accountability and information. Large animals are welcome at the fairgrounds as well.

Chaffee County Sheriff’s deputies and South Arkansas/Salida Fire personnel are going door to door in the evacuation areas to make sure people received the notification and are evacuating.

The Decker Fire was sparked by lightning on September 8, 2019. High winds and dry conditions caused the fire to swell overnight. Reports say the fire is about 5% contained.
