After over 50 years of chewy sweetness, the chewing gum of many of our youth, Fruit Stripe, will be discontinued

Ferrara Foods, which manufactures the gum along with other candy products such as Red Hots and Gobstoppers,  announced the move following years of continuing decline in gum sales according to The Atlantic

Created in the 1960’s, Fruit Stripe Gum became well known to kids around the world with its bright colors and its equally colorfully stripped mascot, Yipes The Zebra.

While you still may be able to find Fruit Stripe at a few stores, prices are already starting to sky rocket on sites such as eBay where the product is being sold for over $100

Many on social media shared their dismay of the end of the Fruit Stripe era, but many agreed that whatever delicious flavor the gum provided, only lasted about as long as it takes to read this story.  One Twitter user shared that: “I know the flavor didn’t last very long, but those first couple seconds of each stick of gum was pure bliss.”

Even though Fruit Stripe has been discontinued, Ferrara encourages their consumers to continue enjoying many of their other products such as Laffy Taffy, Brach’s, Lemonheads, Nerds and more!
