50 pounds of gum was just scraped off the seats at Denver’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre

I don’t mean to sound like your dad here, but you’d think we would take better care of one of the most prestigious, beautiful things we have in the Denver-area…

The group, Friends of Red Rocks, a nonprofit group of volunteers dedicated to preserving Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre, has been doing behind-the-scenes dirty work for over 20 years. Each month, even in the winter when there are no concerts at the venue, a gum-scraping crew removes chewed gum from the Red Rocks seats.

Throughout 2023, they gathered a total of 50 pounds of gum from under the seats (dried gum weighs hardly anything, so that’s A LOT!).

Technically gum isn’t even allowed inside Red Rocks, but of course that is nearly impossible to police, so hopefully if you’re reading this, the next time you attend a concert there you think twice about chewing gum, or at least sticking it to the seats of our beautiful venue.
