2 Colorado Bears Euthanized After Camper Attacked

After a man was attacked at a campground in southwest Colorado, two bears were euthanized.
As reported in the Durango Herald, the out of state man was camping south of Pagosa Springs on July 2. He first heard noises outside the tent and, as Colorado Parks and Wildlife employee Matt Thorpe says, “the next thing he knows, the bear claws in and bites him.”
The man was later treated for puncture wounds.
Out of caution, two bears with the same color hair found at the campsite were tracked down and euthanized. Saliva samples including DNA were sent to a Wyoming lab to ensure rabies was not present.
